Haflong,February 22: Dima Hasao Environment and Forest Department have organised 3rd Tortoise Festival at Hajong lake on 21st February to create awareness among the people of the neighbouring villages on the endangered species. NCHAC Executive Member Fleming Rupsi Shylla ,i/c Dima Hasao Forest Division(E) graced the occasion as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, he said that the Autonomous Council will be taking more steps to make Hajong a tourist attraction in the district.Around 400 to 500 tortoise are dwelling in the Hajong lake at present.
The programme was also attended by the Ex- EM of the Council J.L Jidung, Ex- Chairman of the Autonomous Council Nirmal Maramsa, DFO East Division H.M Bathari, DFO SA Division Krosing Bey, DFO FRS Tunu Langthasa, Range Officer Maibang Range Jeetendra Jidung, Range Officer Langting Range Rabindra Sengyung, Village Gaon Bura N. Mujadar amongst others.
