NCHAC Holds Interim Budget Session for FY 2026-27
HAFLONG, 10th Feb: The Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with various allied sectors under CSS-ATMA, kicked off a Two-Day Kisan Mela-2026 today at Krishi Bhawan, Haflong, in the Dima Hasao district. Scheduled to run from February 10th to February 11th, 2026, the event aims to empower local farmers by showcasing modern agricultural techniques and fostering regional growth. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Sameer Roy, Chairman of the Department of Agriculture, who attended as the Chief Guest. Laisringdi Naiding, ACS Deputy Secretary of NCHAC, Dhritiraj Alamyan, ACS, Assistant Commissioner, Dr. Bhairab Kakati, I/c Addl. Director (Hills) of AH & Veterinary Department, Fishery Development Officer, KVK Scientist and Assisstant General Manager, NABARD were also present in the programme. During his address, Chairman Roy emphasized the importance of integrating technology with traditional farming to boost productivity across the district. He added that the Mela features numerous stalls and interactive sessions designed to provide farmers with direct access to expert guidance and departmental resources. Addressing farmers, Dr. Kakati, I/c Addl. Director (Hills) of AH & Veterinary Department emphasized the need to transition from traditional to scientific methods of animal rearing, specifically for local poultry and piggery, promising that the department will facilitate training for farmers to boost productivity. Highlighting the modernization of rural infrastructure, the Addl. Director announced that various NABARD-funded (RIDF) projects are underway to reconstruct veterinary dispensaries in Dima Hasao to provide better animal health services. The event follows an interactive session with local farmers and departmental resource person, designed to provide a direct platform for them to share their challenges regarding plantation, cattle rearing, livestock management, and various agricultural schemes. This initiative is part of a series of successful agricultural programs in the region, reflecting the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council’s (DHAC) ongoing commitment to rural development, enhancing local livelihoods, and ensuring food security. Other present in the programme were farmers and other officials.
