Haflong, 15August 2026: Along with the rest of the nation, Dima Hasao district celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great fervor and enthusiasm at the N.L. Daulagupu Sports Complex.
The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Debolal Gorlosa, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and hoisted the National Tricolour. He was joined by District Commissioner Ms Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge, IAS, and Superintendent of Police Ripunjoy Kakati, who stood alongside the VVIP during the ceremonial flag hoisting.
The celebration was marked by grandeur, gaiety, and patriotic spirit. A vibrant band display was presented by the 26 Assam Rifles, adding energy to the occasion. Distinguished dignitaries including NCHAC Chairman Mohet Hojai, EM Donphainon Thaosen, Vice Chairman District Planning Board Dhriti Thaosen, Principal Secretaries of Council Partha Sarathi Jahari, ACS, and Rajit Karigapsa, along with officers from the Council and District Administration, were present.
In his address, CEM Debolal Gorlosa highlighted the district’s achievements across various sectors:He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, for officially recognizing the traditional Dimasa language for daily administrative and educational use. This milestone marks a historic moment for the community, granting due recognition to the age-old language after decades of independence.
Dima Hasao continues to excel academically, consistently ranking among
the top three districts in Assam and securing the first position in HSLC
examinations. Free coaching initiatives under the Super 30 program have
enabled underprivileged students to pursue careers in medicine, civil services,
and other prestigious fields.
CEM Debolal Gorlosa also expressed that many youths from the district
have successfully cleared APSC and allied services examinations, contributing
to the state’s administrative strength. Also he stated that the district’s
young talents have brought laurels by winning awards at state and national
levels, showcasing Dima Hasao’s growing prominence in sports.
The CEM commended the collective efforts of the Council team and the
guidance of MLA Rupali Langthasa in driving progress across education,
employment, and cultural preservation. He emphasized that the district’s
achievements reflect the resilience and determination of its people.
