Maibang Honours Freedom Fighters on 80th Independence Day

 Maibang, 15 August 2026: The 80th Independence Day celebrated with patriotic fervor and cultural performances at Dishru Field, Maibang, where citizens gathered to honour the nation’s freedom and progress.

The programme was graced by Projith Hojai, Executive Member, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC), in charge of Irrigation, Taxes, and Land Revenue, as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Monjoy Langthasa, Executive Member, DHAC, as Guest of Honour.

Other dignitaries present included SDO (Civil) Shyamanta Rabi Bara, ACS, SDPO Maibang Rahul Kalita, APS, Executive Magistrate Shri Jamanur Islam, ACS, SDIPRO Rijit Nunisa Kachari, and several other officials and distinguished guests.

Addressing the gathering, Projith Hojai extended heartfelt greetings to all citizens on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day. He paid tribute to the great freedom fighters Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Sambhudhan Phonglo, Demalik Kemprai, Joya Thaosen, Rani Gaindalu, and many others whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s independence.

He highlighted the nation’s progress since independence under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing advancements in digital technology, road infrastructure, agriculture, education, and welfare schemes for youth and the underprivileged.

Speaking on Assam’s development, he acknowledged the efforts of  Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma and CEM Shri Debolal Gorlosa, under whose leadership Dima Hasao has witnessed significant growth in roads, education, medical facilities, and tourism. He urged all citizens to work together with sincerity and unity to ensure that government schemes reach every section of society without discrimination.
Prizes were awarded to the top-performing students of Maibang Sub-Division in both the Matriculation and Higher Secondary examinations. In addition, the Maibang Degree College marching contingent was adjudged the best and received the First Prize

The event concluded with cultural performances, flag hoisting, and expressions of patriotic pride.
