Convergence-cum-Orientation Meeting on National Deworming Day held at Haflong

Haflong, 5 August 2026: A Convergence-cum-Orientation Meeting on National Deworming Day (NDD) FY 2026 was held today at the Conference Hall of the Joint Director of Health Services, Haflong, under the aegis of the District Health Society, National Health Mission (NHM), Dima Hasao. The meeting was chaired by Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Sarsing Rongpi.

Addressing the participants, District Immunization Officer, Dr. Marina L. Changsan, delivered a detailed presentation on the transmission cycle of intestinal worms and highlighted the importance of the National Deworming Day programme. She explained that worm infections mainly occur due to poor sanitation, contaminated food and water, inadequate hand hygiene, and walking barefoot.

She further informed that worm infections can lead to malnutrition, anaemia, poor physical growth, and reduced learning ability among children. Dr. Changsan stressed that regular deworming, handwashing with soap, drinking safe water, maintaining proper sanitation, and wearing footwear are effective measures to prevent worm infections.

She also briefed the participants on the implementation strategy of the programme and the roles and responsibilities of the concerned departments to ensure effective coverage of all eligible children.

The Social Welfare Department and the Education Department were requested to ensure the availability of updated target beneficiary data, including children aged 3–6 years enrolled in Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) and children aged 5–19 years studying in Government and Government-aided schools, for the smooth implementation of the programme.

It was informed during the meeting that the National Deworming Day programme will be launched across all Health Blocks of Dima Hasao on August 10, 2026, during which deworming tablets will be administered to eligible children and adolescents through Anganwadi Centres, Government and Government-aided schools, and other designated institutions.

The meeting concluded with an appeal for all stakeholder departments to work in close coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the National Deworming Day programme and achieve maximum coverage of eligible beneficiaries
