Desh Bhakti Diwas observed in Dima Hasao district

 

Haflong, 28th July, 2026: Desh Bhakti Diwas was observed today at the District Commissioner's Conference Hall in Haflong to mark the death anniversary of legendary freedom fighter Desh Bhakt Tarun Ram Phukan. The commemorative event was organized by the Dima Hasao District Administration in collaboration with the District Information & Public Relations Officer, joining the rest of Assam in honoring the state icon.

The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a formal floral tribute to the portrait of Tarun Ram Phukan. The honours were led by Shri Ramkuiwangbe Jeme, Padma Shri Award winner, Smt. Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge, IAS, District Commissioner of Dima Hasao and other dignitaries.

The programmes were also attended by ADC, including representatives from community apex bodies, local leaders, Women's Association, NGOs, and students.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Bobita Engtipi, President of the Haflong Branch of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, addressed the audience on the life and greatness of Tarun Ram Phukan. She detailed his intensive struggles during India's freedom movement, emphasizing the vital need for younger generations to remember and respect home-grown heroes who fought for national independence

The event successfully concluded with an official vote of thanks delivered by Additional District Commissioner (ADC) Shhaurya Sharma, ACS.
