Haflong, May 15: A discussional meeting on the Prospect and Challenges of Haflong Government College was held today at the Cultural Institute Hall, Haflong under the Chairmanship of Kulendra Daolagupu, EM i/c Education etc., N. C. Hills Autonomous Council, Haflong.
Various representatives of Schools, colleges, apex bodies, NGO’s, Sr. Citizens and dignitaries suggested for overcoming the various problems faced by Haflong Govt. College especially for filling up the vacancies of teachers in Haflong Govt. College. Some spokesmen suggested for decentralizing the students of the college and enrolling only the degree students in Haflong Govt. College. In this regard, they opined that the High Schools need to be upgraded to college standard and new private colleges should be established so that all sections of the society of the district could avail higher education. Some spokes persons suggested to maintain some specific rules and regulations to Haflong Govt. College so that, the students make better results and to meet the required U.G.C. norms. At present the teacher-student ratio of Haflong College is 69:2500, but the teaching posts were not increased in proportion to the increase in the number of students. Due to increase in the number of admissions of students, the Haflong Govt College is facing difficulty in accommodating all the students in their respective classes. In this regard, Executive Member Kulendra Daolagupu i/c Education,etc, as Chairperson disclosed of solving the problem of the already overworked faculty of Haflong Govt. College by opening a new private degree college temporarily. He also requested for cooperation from all citizens to find a long term solution for the continuation of this prestigious institute.
The meeting was also attended by NCHAC Principal Secretary Ramesh Thaosen, Joint Secretary Zovi Nampui, Retd.IAS officer Subash Longmailai,Town Committee Vice-Chairman John Phoitong, Principal of Haflong Govt. College, other dignitaries and a large number of teachers, public and staff of Education Department.
