Haflong, 15th May 2022: Heavy incessant rainfall since the past four days has caused massive disaster with huge loss of lives and properties in in all parts of Dima Hasao district of Assam.
The disaster affects loss of lives and properties, land, farming land, paddy fields, livestock and death of three
precious lives which includes a minor girl studying in fourth standard from
Hokai Pungchi.
As many as 1320 numbers of passengers at New Haflong rail
station and 1500 at Ditokcherra were stranded since yesterday while Dima Hasao
District Administration took care of their food from lunch, dinner, breakfast
and some snacks since the unfortunate occurrence.
At present around 60
of them are still halted at the Haflong station who are from the Cachar dist
and around 204 were evacuated till Maibang sub division via road and sent back
and reached Guwahati today.
Local MLA Nandita Gorlosa also engaged youth to distribute
food and tea to the passengers last evening
Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Nazreen Ahmed, ACS visited
railway station to take stock of the situation and also interacted with the
passengers there to pacify them assuring them of all that is necessary till
they are sent back to their destinations.
Meanwhile at Ditokcherra station 199 passengers who were
either senior citizens or who needed medical attention were air lifted and the
rest were bounded back to another train to Silchar town via Guwahati- Silchar
train.
There have been heavy damage of public and private
properties assessment of which is to be done shortly. Train line has been
snapped between Phaiding and Dauthuhaja stations and road connectivity
throughout the district is heavily affected.
NCHAC CEM Debolal Gorlosa visited the sites around Haflong
town where maximum damages occurred. He also visited Jeme village Hokai Pungchi
where three people lost their lives. Guardian Minister for Dima Hasao and
Revenue Minster Jogan Mohan and Commissioner& Secy, GoA, GD Tripathi, IAS
is scheduled to visit Dima Hasao tomorrow to take stock of the situation in the
district.
