(EM Hamjanan Langthasa (L) and Sandesh Ardao Revenue Officer (R) of DHAC are discussing with the EE(PWD) Haflong Govt. of AssamB.L.Dutta (Middle) about the plan for construction of the site on 13 November,2011 near Chhoto Wapu)
The Government of Assam is
going to establish one Institute of Polytechnic at Chhoto-Wapu village in the
Dima Hasao District of Assam shortly. In this connection, a team comprising the
Executive Member for Land and Revenue Hamjanan
Langthasa,Revenue Officer Sandesh Ardao, the Executive Engineer (PWD
Building), Haflong Division B.L.Dutta and other officials visited the site near
Chhoto Wapu, 15km from the Headquarters of the district Haflong and inspected
the place to make the final plan of the required work for construction of
necessary infrastructure.
EM Hamjanan informed that
this Polytechnic is to be established by the Government of Assam to
increase centre for technical learning
centre in the entire state of Assam as
per its latest proposal. Earlier, Maibang was chosen for the place of its
establishment, but no suitable site or land was found. That is why the
Government have now chosen this place near Chhotowapu village for the purpose,
Langthasa told reporters. Hamja expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Education
Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sharma for extending this kid of help for the
educational, economic development of Dima Hasao District as well as for his tiredless
effort to bring peace and all round development of the district. The EM also
term the recent violence as nothing and
not a detrimental but “we are going to help the Government for implementation
of any development programme in the district. The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council
is always ready and trying to uplift the social, economic and political
standard of the public. Of which, we are stressing the utmost importance of
education. All problems of the district like recent spark of violence are
nothing but most of the problems faced by the people can be solved through
developmental activities.” The Council will also provide water supply facility
from P.H.E. department and other necessities for the purpose, he added.
When asked about the land,
the R.O., Sandesh Ardao replied that the Revenue department of the Council will
allot enough plot of land for the purpose within this month as the Government
has already sanction Rs. 12 Crore for the purpose.
Earlier, the Executive
Engineer B.L.Dutta disclosed about the details of the plan for the work saying
“at least 6-7 trade will be imparted in the institute and the propose
constructionincludes Auditorium, hockey
ground, contact stadium, Football ground, workshop with modern facility upto
mini-township.” He also said this scheme is part of the plan for 2012 – 13
financial year.
It may be noted here that
there is only one full-fledged college in this district, which is Haflong Govt.
College, having three streams such as Arts, Science and Commerce. This HGC has
already its 50th years of existence in September (1st to
6th) this year. The success result of the college is also good.
Specially, the science stream have achieved good record. However, the
infrastructure of the college is still poor. Many post of lecturers are still
lying vacant. The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council have been engaging some persons
by appointing in contractual basis @ Rs. 8,000.00 per month. The Government is
yet to regularize their appointment. There is also problem for the college. The
College had been established by the Government under Gauhati University,
Guwahati, Assam. Recently, the College Degree and PG courses have been transfer
to under the Assam University, a central University. This left the College in a
dilemma, which Government is going to look after the immediate requirement of
the college, whether the Assam Government or the Central Government.
