General Public To Protest, Check Bandh with District Administration


      Haflong, March  10, 2014: A joint meeting was held on 2nd March 2014 (Sunday) at Circuit House, Haflong in connection with the issue of frequent bandh called by various organizations in the district recently.

        The meeting was conducted jointly by Shri. Barun Bhuyan, Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao District  and  Shri. Samuel Changsan CEM i/c N.C. Hills Autonomous Council as the two were the convenors. The meeting was also attended by Executive Members, MACs, as well as ADC Smti. L.Zovi Nampui along with leaders of different Students’ Organizations, NGOs, women organizations, public leaders, civil societies and senior citizens.
At the ouset, the CEM i/c N.C. Hills Autonomous Council Shri. Samuel Changsan welcome all and explained the aims and objectives of the meeting. He said that every citizens has the right to claim his right but frequent calling bandh is detrimental to every works and is harassment for the general public. As such, the Council wants to check such bandh and invited members to present their respective opinion.
The Deputy Commissioner Shri Barun Bhuyan informed all the members that the meeting was called not against any community or organization but to solve the common problem faced by all due to bandh. He also appealed to all  to check the bandh culture from the district as it hampers all section of people.
Almost all the members present accepted the suggestion and agreed not to call for bandh considering that bandh not only affects on all communities. If any party or organization want to express their demand or protest they might take other democratic way of agitation, like  dharna, rally, etc instead of calling bandh.
The house resolved : 1. to protest and condemn any bandh called by any organization in future. 2. Peaceful procession will also be conducted shortly against the bandh culture. 3.A citizens’ forum will be formed comprising of all the communities
