Samannay Mela Concludes




     Haflong, February 24,2014 : The three days Integrated or Samannay Mela was ceremonially concluded yesterday.
         The Chief Guest of the closing ceremony was Parliamentary Secretary for PWD ManilalGowala while CEM of NCHAC DebojeetThaosen chaired the closing session. Hailing the initiative by the Council and I&PR, ManilalGowala said, “I believe that the Integration Mela will truly integrate the people and the diverse culture will prove to be a binding force which will usher in growth, prosperity and development to the region”.Chairman Ngamrothang Hmar

Chairman Ngamrothang Hmar and other Executive Members of NCHAC were also present on the occasion and later on they gave away prizes and participation certificates to the winners.

“This Samannay Mela has been a great blessing for us. Being a student I was greatly enthused to see the congregation of people and got to know so many things about the developments in DimaHasao.” So opined D. Kemprai , a student of HaflongGovt College. With this positive viewpoint the 3 day SamannayMela, that was held from the 21st to 23rdFebuary at Haflong, virtually set the tone for all the good things to take place in the days to come.
This mela had brought people from all corners of the hill district and they were able to interact with the council and government officials besides availing the platform to meet their brethren and community members after a long  time. Gaonburas from all the villages of DimaHasao were able to express their opinions and concerns to the council members/ officials and arrive at a constructive decision regarding the issue of ensuring development with social responsibility.
SamannayMela or the Integration Mela was jointly organized by the Directorate of Information & Public Realtions and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council with the aim ‘Celebrating unity in diversity’ and DimaHasao got the opportunity to hold this as the second, as the first mela was held in December 2013 at Mangaldoi,  with the same aim and objective.
The three-day event which was inaugurated by Chief Minister TarunGogoi on February 21 also included other programmes like seminars on the role of Gaon Burhas, discussions on youths, youth employability with social responsibility, competitions, food festival, and fashion show. Spectacular and stunning fireworks illuminated the complex that left the audience in awe.
Celebrating unity in diversity, people thronged the exhibition of 79 stalls depicting government activities which were put up by various government departments, NGOs and SHGs for mass awareness. Apart from this, a star-studded evening of cultural programmes and performances by rock bands from Nagaland, Mizoram and Assam including Indian Idol PrasantTamang enthralled and captivated the thousands of audience gathered at the sports complex.
