Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, GOC 3 Corps made a maiden visit on 12 Nov to Headquarter 22 Sector Assam Rifles and 43 Assam Rifles located at Haflong. This is his first visit to Haflong after taking over the reins of 3Corps.
The visit came after the conduct of a number of successful operations by Assam Rifles against various insurgent groups in the Dima Hasao district. The NSCN (IM) specially has been dealt a severe blow with the elimination of almost eight of its cadres in the recent past. The local populace and the civil administration have publically acknowledged the efforts of the Assam Riles.
The General officer was briefed on the ground reality and the importance of bringing normalcy in the district after a decade long turmoil led by various DHD factions. The GOC applauded the vital role played by the joint efforts of the security forces and the civil administration in dealing with the prevalent situation and expressed confidence that the situation in the district will only improve in future.He also interacted with the troops of 43 Assam Rifles who have been at the forefront of ensuring peace in the region and congratulated them on their success.
