Haflong, February 1: The two days harvest festival of the Dimasas in Haflong organised by the Central Busu Celebration Committee at N L Daulagupu Sports Complex concluded yesterday i.e. January 31 with Girindra Mallik, Assam Minister of State (I) as chief guest at the programme.
The programme was inaugurated by Union Minister of Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju on January 30.
In his speech Union Minister Rijiju assured of all possible help for development of the district and has urged the Council to submit a proposal to the Centre to develop the Dima Hasao district into an attractive tourist destination.

As part of his visit Rijiju also met the leaders of the Apex Body, gaonburas and leaders of different tribes and non-tribes of the districts and had a very resourceful meeting.
This year the Busu programme was celebrated in larger scale with guests and participants from other states. On January 30, the first day of the Busu began with bike rally at around 8 A.M. where bikers from all over the town participated which was followed by hoisting of flag by the president of the Central Busu Celebration committee Mohindra Kemprai who is also Executive Member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council for Cultural Affairs and Industries, in presence of members and thousands of participants during the Busu.
There were also stalls at the venue put up by various departments, Self Help Groups, NGOs etc. The exhibition was inaugurated by Debojeet Thaosen, Chief Executive Member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council. There was a colourful representation of popular dimasa traditional performance of human chain called Bagaoba participated by more than three hundred participants from nearby villages and also from Haflong town. Guest artists from Nepal and other places and local artists from the district performed on the first day of the of the Busu programme.
On January 31, the second day or the closing day, various traditional sports were played and contested among the villages in Haflong town area. Simultaneously, a seminar was also held on history, customs and tradition of different kachari groups with special focus on their harvesting festivals. Speakers who participated in the seminar were Dr. Motilal Nunisa, Dr. Dhinnanath Basumatary, Arup Jyoti Koch, Pranjal Rajkhanikar and Ratan Kachari.
The seminar was attended by members of the civil society, seniors of the dimasa society, and youth. The two days programme concluded with various competitions such as dance performance of different age groups for ladies, flute playing competitions for the male members and later prize distributions. The dance carried on for the whole night till the dawn.
