Haflong, March 19: The District vigilance cell Dima Hasao arrested Deputy Range Officer of Forest Iluing Zeme for illegal practice from Khandong Forest gate in Umrangsho 151 Km from Haflong,
informed the Deputy Commissioner Barun Bhuyan in a press meet in his official bungalow of Haflong today.
The deputy Commissioner also told reporters that Mr. Zeme is serving under normal sector of N.C. Hills Autonomous council and was posted in Khandong Forest gate, near Umrangso.
The District vigilance cell have registered a 1st ever case in Dima Hasao district since its inception
Briefing the press , Barun Bhuiya disclosed that there were various complain against forest officials collecting money from goods carrying vehicles on that area. Based on a specific input on last Tuesday, the District vigilance cell, in which the Deputy Commissioner is the Chairman, sent a team comprising of a magistrate Deepak Jidung and Addl. SP (Security) Jayanta Choudhury. The team inspected the spot and trapped Mr. zeme red-handed while he was collecting money from a truck carrying Kilns (product used to make cement) which is not forest product. The team registered a case under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act at Umrangsho Police Station. Later on, however , he was released on bail on Wednesday with a condition that he cannot leave the district without the permission of District Magistrate.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Zeme, if convicted will have to serve five years imprisonment and also might lose his Job.
Bhuyan further, disclosed that there are information about this type of illegal practices in many parts of the district but they don’t h receive any complain. He said public generally don’t complain against this type of illegal practices.
The Deputy Commissioner Barun Bhuyan requested the press to make the public known about his appeal to all the citizens of Dima Hasao to come forward and fight against such illegal practices. He regretted that the general public are still not aware of the fact that there is a District vigilance cell in the district in which is headed by the Deputy commissioner , if anyone have any complain they can approach him for necessary action.
