DSU Memo to Education Minister Barkotoki

Haflong,April’30: The Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU) on April 29, submitted a memorandum to  Sarat Bartoky, Minister of Education, Public Grievances and Pension, Government of Assam during his visit to Haflong, Dima Hasao on the occasion of celebration of the 64th Foundation Day of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Dima Hasao. The student body President Thalendra Daualgupu and general secretary, Amol Daulagupu  in its memo urged the education minister for setting up of University and Girls Degree College at Haflong and B.Ed. College in Dima Hasao, Technical Institute in the District and to resolve the grievances of present Haflong Govt. College.

The memorandum stated that, establishment of University at Haflong in Dima Hasao was its long pending demand and even today it remained merely a dream of the people of the District and hence the organization for the greater interest of people of Dima Hasao District reminds its long pending demands to take necessary steps for establishment of  University at Haflong in his Minister ship. Moreover, it has stated that most of the students from the District are Female and there is only one Degree College i.e. Haflong Govt. College, as the students are increasing day by day there is accommodation problem at the College and due to the same problem last year more than 350 students got no admission in time. So, to accommodate the passed out students and get their education in time, the problem is not to be repeated in the future, it requests to take necessary steps to set up Girls’ Degree College at Haflong.
Furthermore, it has maintained that the only Haflong Govt College in Dima Hasao district established in 1961 with objective to facilitating higher education to the youths of this District, one of the Government College of Assam, produced many successful candidates and makes them responsible citizens towards the district; but since 2010, the College is facing problems of accommodation and shortage of both Teaching and non-teaching staffs’.  Therefore the DSU urges to redress the grievances of the College such as to fill up the vacant post of Non-teaching staffs, upgradation of Boys’ Hostel, immediate appointment in the present 29 vacant posts of professors by giving preference to the existing contractual professors for the same besides setting up of Library at the college with equipped and full facilities. Apart from the grievances of college education, the most and urgent requirement of  students community of the district is to immediate setting up of the B.Ed. College at Dima Hasao District as there is no other option for Higher studies at our district for the students of passed Degree (Arts) and has no opportunity for attaining job in teaching component, for which the graduate candidates are to remain unemployed increasingly. That is why, the organization appealed to setting up of B.Ed. College in district so as to accommodate the B.A. passed students that the students get employment in teaching component and solve the unemployment problems. It also added that, there is no scope for imparting technical education in Dima Hasao District till date and the students of our district are to go outside the district which is not possible for the poor students, as a result of which the students of this district are to remain without technical education, thus they are forbidden for job opportunity in technical department. Therefore, setting up of Engineering College at Diyungbra in Dima Hasao district is urged for, which the state Government is committed to set up the said College. Accordingly the Autonomous Council under the leadership of CEM Deboojit Thaosen has allotted the required land at Diyungbra in the year 2012, which is yet to start its construction work.
