Haflong, August 2, 2015 : The district of Dima Hasao is most likely to get a new civil Sub-Division with its head quarter at Umrangsu very soon disclosed a highly placed source and with this a long pending demand of the people entire Umrangsu and its adjacent areas of Dima Hasao would be solved.
The source also said almost all the formalities in regards to creation of New Sub-Division are completed and the date for laying of foundation stone is fixed on October 2, 2015 next.
Meanwhile the Chief Minister’s Office has asked for some presentations etc. The Umrangsu area of Dima Hasao is the only industrial estate of the district having NEEPCO, Dalmiya Cement factory etc. and also the highest revenue earner of the district. This area is also located on interstate border with Meghalaya and district border like Karbi Anglong.
The demand for the creation of a new sub-division comprising areas from Dehangi, Diyungmukh etc. and Umrangsu as its Head Quarters was raised prior to the creation of Maibang but was not fulfilled .
In absence of Sub-Division, it was not only difficult for the administration in maintenance of Law and order but the people were the worst sufferers as they have to cover a distance of 120 km to reach Haflong for a simple works to be done, not to speak of expenditure incurred by the people.
Martin Teron, former EM of NCHAC said ‘creation of a new Sub-Division with its Head Quarter at Umrangsu would be a boon for the people of entire Umrangsu area. Not for the people alone it would also be very helpful for the administration to maintain law and order as well as other administrative activities. Teron also said the youths of this area would also be benefitted as they would get more avenues if the Sub- Division is established. The government would also be benefitted in realizing more revenue which is not taped yet.Elisha Chingtho, former Executive Member, the then N C Hills District Council while talking to this correspondent expressed his great satisfaction and said ‘I had proposed the creation of civil Sub-Division with HQ at Umrangsu in the year 1980 when the Chief Minister of Assam was Late Hiteswar Saikia. I am very happy to know this though the government has taken long time to create the Sub-Division. (Haflong News August 10,2015)
