The Anglo-Kuki War Patriots Memorial Park Foundation stone inaugurated

All the Kuki tribes living in India and beyond have every reason to be happy and elated as the foundation stone of the Anglo-Kuki War Memorial Park was officially laid in commemoration of their brave forefathers who fought the mighty British Empire for freedom, unity and integration of the motherland. It may be recollected from the pages of history that the Kukis valiantly fought the British in the Anglo-Kuki War of 1917-1919.
The War is also known as Kuki Rebellion of 1917-19. It was a full-scale war fought bravely and consistently by the Kukis for three consecutive years. However due to economic blockaded and food supply cut-off, the Kukis had to ultimately surrendered and as a result their Chiefs were charged with war crimes and thus deported in exile to Sadiya, under the then undivided Lakhimpur district of Assam.

The function begin with the ceremonial unveiling of the foundation stone by the Chief Guest Mr.Manajyoti Kuktum, ACS, SDO, Sadiya Sub-Division of Tinsukia district, in the presence of Pu Thangkhokhup S Kipgen and Pu Haojakam, Chairman and Secretary, Anglo-Kuki War Patriots Memorial Foundation respectively and a good number of gatherings comprising of the locals, their Gaoburas, Student Leaders and some leaders of the Kuki community coming from other States of the North-east including those of Upper Assam.
While delivering his welcome address Mr.Lamhao Doungel, APS, Additional SP of Tinsukia district, whose role was immense in the actual materialization of the project expressed his satisfaction and gratefulness and thereby acknowledged the helps and cooperation received from the district administration particularly that of the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Puru Gupta, IAS, the ADC, Mr. Diganta Saikia of Tinsukia district and the SDO of Sadiya Sub-division. In the same breathe Pu Thangkhokhup S Kipgen, Chairman, AKWPM, also said that it is not less than a dream come true since this is the best way to pay our tribute to our brave warriors.
Earlier on the occasion immediately after the unveiling of the foundation stone by the Chief Guest, Pu Haojakam, Secretary of the AKWPMF prayed a prayer of thanks-giving to the Almighty.On the occasion the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests were felicitated by the Chairman and Secretary of the AKWPMF with colourful Kuki traditional jackets and mufflers. While addressing the gathering the Chief Guest, Mr Kuktum said that he feel proud and considered himself lucky to be associated with this noble venture of setting up Anglo-Kuki Memorial Park at Sadiya. Mr.Rintu Boro, ACS, Circle Officer of Sadiya Sub-division who graced the function also highly appreciated the initiative of the Anglo-Kuki War Patriots Memorial Foundation and assured his cooperation in days to come.
Mr Amrul Islam on behalf of youths of the locality also spoke on the occasion promising that they will fully cooperate with the AKWPMF and help in whatever way they can. As a token of love and appreciation the youths felicitated the Kuki leaders, the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour with Assamese traditional phulam gomosas. The function was ably chaired by Dr.Lamkholal Doungel, Chairman KWS, Dibrugarh who also offered the vote of thanks. Dr Doungel said, “for the Kukis, Sadiya was, is and will always be a holy place and its people our brothers and our bond of relationship is sealed by history.” The program came to end with a prayer from Mr.Mangcha Haokip, Secretary KWS Dibrugarh.
