Assam Rifles, Army Extends Help to People in Hard Times


Haflong, May 19 (HN)  : The Assam Rifles and Army are being true Friends in need of the Hill People of Dima Hasao during emergency and hard times, not only   doing security duty but saving lives in times of natural calamities.
Dima Hasao, especially the areas around Haflonghave received over 500 mm of rain in two short spells each of 22-25 April and 15-18 May.  It has till date led to loss of five lives, including a 10 year old girl student on 17 May. The people have been inconvenienced by the disruption of road and rail traffic during both these periods. The continuous disruption of electric supply added to the people’s woes as work of banks and offices was affected. The importance of ATMs and mobile telephones in today’s world got highlighted during these days.

The Assam Rifles HQ in Haflong in conjunction with DIPR has been using social media to keep people informed of the weather forecast and precautions to be taken. The Assam Rifles and Army along with some NGOs of the District have provided humanitarian aid in these tough times. Soldiers with JCB of the Assam Rifles have been clearing landslides on a war footing. They have also provided mobile charging points to the people in all Company Operating Bases. The relief provided to residents of Ditokchera area by Assam Rifles with Highlanders (Bullet Bike riders) and by Territorial Army to the passengers of SamparkKranti train has been appreciated by the people, the DC, SPand the NE Railways.
In an interesting way, the recently installed first debit and credit ATM of the SBI in the NE Region at Sarkari Bagan HQ of the Assam Rifles came to the rescue of Haflongites. The money deposited in the ATM by the Assam Rifles was transferred to maintain cash stocks in other ATMs. The ARs and Army are being true Friends in need of the Hill People of Dima Hasao.
