Addressing
media-persons following a thunderous reception at the BJP headquarters here,
Sonowal said that the BJP’s priority would be to steer the State in the path of
progress, while protecting the identity and culture of its inhabitants.
“This is a historic
occasion for the BJP and the people’s mandate reflects that. Our thanks are due
to the people of Assam for reposing their faith in the BJP and in Prime
Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP and its alliances worked hard for the purpose,”
he said.
Sonowal added that the
BJP Government would single-mindedly work towards fulfilling its poll pledges
as mentioned in its vision document and meet the masses’ aspirations.
“The victory shows
that the people were dissatisfied with Congress misrule. The people want their
culture and identity to be protected. Our actions would be guided by the
people’s pulse and we will meet their expectations. The vision document will be
implemented in its letter and spirit. There will be accountability and
transparency in governance,” he said.
Sonowal added that the
BJP would address all the chronic problems – including cross-border
infiltration from Bangladesh – and resolve those. “I assure the people that the
BJP will put an end to infiltration from Bangladesh,” he said.
The BJP president
asserted that the Government would work without any prejudices and take the
Opposition into confidence while discharging its responsibilities.
“We will work with an
open mind… Tarun Gogoi is a veteran politician and we will seek his opinion and
guidance in governance,” he added.
BJP’s national general
secretary Ram Madhab, while welcoming the mandate, said that it was for
protecting the identity of the State’s people and also for development. “All
the burning issues plaguing the State, including infiltration, will be
resolved.” – AT
