From : Samsul Alam
HAFLONG, Sept 5 : The Four undertrials, who had escaped from Haflong sub-jail around 1:40  am of 30th August 2016  by breaking down the wall of a toilet, were rearrested within five hours, 90km from the prison claimed they have been helped by the Jailor to escape, which the later denied.

It is noteworthy that there have been several jailbreaks from the prison, the last one in 2013.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao district  Vaskar Chandra Das said undertrials Komando Hasam, Kanhaiya Choudhary, Krishna Malakar and Santosh Munda escaped by breaking the wall of a toilet around 1.32am.“The condition of the jail is not good and it needs urgent repairs. The wall they broke was in a deplorable condition. The pitiable state of the jail and lack of proper fencing on the building’s boundary are the reasons for the frequent jailbreaks,” he said.
According to the jail authorities, the prison is overcrowded.
The jail can house only 32 prisoners but has more than 89 inmates.Komando was arrested for his involvement  in extortion, Kanhaiya for cheating, Krishna for theft, and Santosh for kidnapping.
However, Assam police managed to re-capture all of them from Monjori village on the Haflong-Lanka road, 90km from Haflong. A police team, led by Sub-Inspector Niraj Alam Choudhary, on receiving the information that the four were travelling towards Lanka in a Cruiser, immediately followed the vehicle and apprehended them .They were later brought to Haflong police station.
Earlier in 2006, a Dima Halam Daogah (Nunisa) cadre had escaped at night.
In 2008, three Dima Halam Daogah (Joel) rebels escaped by breaking the entrance gate.
In 2013, “commander-in-chief” of Dimasa National Revolutionary Front, Action Dimasa alias David Kemprai, and a cadre of the outfit, Birason Khelma alias Son Khelma, escaped by breaking the damaged roof of their cell.
Both factions of the Dima Halam Daogah have since been disbanded.
The jailor of Haflong Sub-Jail, Monoj Khaklari, had allegedly helped the four undertrials to escape from the prison on Monday night.
They alleged today that Khaklari had demanded Rs 1 lakh for his help.
Talking to this correspondent today, one of the four undertrials said: “We had been planning to escape from the jail for the past week. We were digging the wall and the jailor knew about it. We were lodged in cell 1 which is attached to his office.”
Khaklari said the allegations are baseless and fabricated. “If I would have wanted to help them, I would have suggested that they apply for bail. They have been here for years and would have easily got bail.”
The superintendent of police, Dima Hasao, Dhananjay Parashuram Ghanawat, today said: “The police have registered a case at Haflong police station against the four and are inquiring into the matter. We will know the truth after the probe. If someone had helped them, law will take its own course.”
Ghanawat said the overcrowded sub-jail is in a deplorable condition and needs immediate repairs. The jail which can lodge only 32 prisoners has more than 89 inmates, he added.
