Seminar on Career Counselling at Longmang High School

HAFLONG, Oct 4: Seminar on Career Counselling was held at Longmang High School, Longmang near Haflong Civil Hospital today, which was organized and conducted by the Headmaster of the school Milan Konwar,attended by all the teaching staffs and students with great enthusiasm.

The seminar was graced by Senior Teacher of Govt. Boys’ Higher Secondary School L.C.Konwar and the Editor of ‘Haflong News’ (Haflong Times) L.K.Hengna as resource persons, besides, photographers Pankaj Timung and Bishnu Sharma also were present.

L.C.Konwar enlightened the student community about the importance of Games & Sports and its present scope for career option. All the gathering, teachers and students were so impressed when he narrated his own school, how he devoted for games & sports that led to become Sports teacher.

Whereas, L.K.Hengna, presenting paper on Career guidance and counselling, explained the importance of career guidance and counselling for the students, saying that choosing career starts from last days of High school. He said that England made compulsory for schools to conduct career counselling and guidance though India still does not made it so; which according to him, is necessary, especially in this backward area as 90% parents do not know even about college education. He also informed about the vast cope of employment opportunity in media when there is increasing unemployment problem in India. He briefly talked about information technology – mass media and the way to be involved.

Later on, some teachers also spoke on the occasion and a light refreshment was served after the programme.

Mention may be made here that Depak Mukherjee of the school had received 1st Prize and the school received 2nd prize in Science Model Competition on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti Celebration from 2 to 4 October in Haflong Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Haflong organized by Rastriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhijan, Dima Hasao.
