Haflong, November 24, 2020 : Several organizations and individuals condole the death of the former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, who expired yesterday, 23rd November 2020 at Guwahati.
Among others, the Kuki Students’ Organisation Assam (KSOA) sent ‘Condolence Message’ saying, “Kuki Students’ Organisation condoles the unfortunate demise of Shri. Tarun Gogoi, the former CM of Assam, who has played a pivotal role in steering the state through difficult imes during his long tenure in office. As the longest serving CM of Assam, his contributions towards the development and strengthening of the state shall forever remain in the pages of history but above all, he shall live on in the heart and memory of the various communities inhabitting this beautiful state as a popular and dignified politician. The state lost a valuable son of the soil today. We pray for solace for the family he left behind. May his precious soul rest in peace.”
Whereas, the Dima Hasao District Congress Committee says “Deeply saddened at the demise of our former Chief Minister TarunGogoi. We bid a farewell to you with heavy heart. Rest In Peace.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Member of N.C.Hills Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa, EM Nandita Gorlosa and other leaders of Dima Hasao also condoled the death of the veteran leader Tarun Gogoi.
The former times Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi breathed his last at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Guwahati at 5:34 PM on November 23,2020 after long illness. He was 86 years old at the time of his demise.
Gogoi was not only the former three-terms Chief Minister of Assam, but also the longest serving Chief Minister of the state, veteran Congress leader, one of the most celebrated and respected politicians of Assam.
Paying his last respect to the departed soul, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced three-day state mourning from November 24 in honour of the former Chief Minister who would be cremated with State honours.
Earlier, Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was at the GMCH during the time of Gogoi’s death, formally announced the news, saying, “I want to inform the citizens of Assam with pain and sorrow that former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi breathed his last today evening at 5:34.”
It may be stated that Gogoi was reported to have tested positive for COVID-19 on August 26 and admitted in GMCH. On August 31, his health condition deteriorated as his oxygen level dropped and he was given plasma therapy and thereafter discharged from the hospital on September 16, after testing negative for the virus.
However, on September 24, Tarun Gogoi's condition again deteriorated and he was shifted to the ICU of GMCH. He was discharged from the GMCH on October 25 following two months of treatment.
Later, he was admitted to GMCH on November 1 after he had complained of breathing problems. His condition had deteriorated on the evening of November 18, after which he was first put on non-invasive ventilation (NIV). Later, he was put in mechanical ventilation on November 21 when his urine output went down significantly. Then, he underwent dialysis on November 22 for six hours but it failed to result in any improvement in his condition. So, he breathed his last at 5:34 PM on November 23.
