Haflong, November 06, 2020 : Haflong Civil Hospital is reeling under water crisis and couldn’t able to facilitate its inmates patients for the past few days.
Earlier, the hospital had bagged the Best Kayakalp Award Winner for 2017-2018 for being the cleanest hospital in Assam, along with Rs 50 lakh and also bagged 2nd position in 2019.
Haflong civil hospital is the only referral hospital in intire Dima Hasao district.
As the hospital have not permanent solution for water connectivity, the hospital have to solely depends on ‘boring well’, however it couldn’t satisfy the water requirement for the hospital owing to technical problem and non availability of permanent pump operator.
Besides water crisis the hospital is also having shortage of gloves, a IV grade staff said that they are allotted only 5 pairs of gloves a day which is not sufficient for both day and night duty and have to purchase package water to wash their hand after every surgical work.
While a patient’s attendee said that they have to fetch water outside premise of the hospital for lavatory uses and sometimes are forced to buy water.
Speaking to this correspondent, superintendent of Haflong Civil Hospital, Dr Kalpana Kemprai said that the problem is running since long time but however they manage it somehow.
She also said that they have informed the higher authority and made a proposal of additional ‘boring well’ and the drilling work has already begun.
The matter came to light when some patients informed the local student body Dimasa Student Union (DSU) on the matter. The DSU on Wednesday visited the hospital and assure to resolve the matter soon.
The DSU also appeal to the hospital authority to resolve the matter as soon as possible and request for appointment of permanent pump operator so that the problem is not persists in future.
To mention here that while a team of media persons went there for covering the story, doctor of the hospital Dr. Biva Bora had forbade for video coverage without prior permission from the superintendent. However the superintendent said she heard about it but received no official written orders.
Dr. Biva Bora was earlier in news for allegedly charging money as a delivery fees.
