Student body stopped Toll Tax Collection at Manderdisa Toll Gate

Haflong, December 16, 2020 : The Manderdisa Toll Plaza was closed on December 16, when joint delegation of Dimasa Students’ Union and All Dimasa Students’ Union stopped the collections of toll tax at Manderdisa Toll Gate, a day after it started functioning on December 15.

The new Tall Plaza at Manderdisa, the first toll plaza in this Dima Hasao district of Assam had already been opened last year by local Hatikhali MAC of N.C. Hills Autonomous Council Bimal Hojai., though it could start functioning only on December 15, 2020.

However, on learning the news, a joint delegation of DSU and ADSU from Haflong went to the Toll Gate and directed to stop collection of Toll Tax till the construction of National Highway road is fully completed. They said  that toll tax should not be collected since large patches are found along the road of NH-54 and NH-27.

ADSU District President Uttam Langthasa complained that the National Highway Authority had been constructing roads in the hill districts for more than a decade. A contractor named Ratna Infra has been assigned the task. But so far most of the work has not been completed. Road from Maibang to Harangajao is in deplorable condition.  Why  importance is given to the toll plaza than the construction of the road?, Langthasa asked.

Uttam also warned that they will launch agitation if NHAI forcibly tried to open a toll plaza till the construction of the road is completed.

DSU President Sidut Naiding also says that the NHAI will not be able to collect toll taxes until the road in the hill district is completed.

Meanwhile, DSU General Secretary Pramit Sengyung also said that  the construction of the national highway first would be followed by the start of the toll plaza.  He stated that they have sent a memorandum to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. The contractor has been hired but the road has not been completed. Not only this, nothing has happened in the last 9 years of Jatinga-Harangaja 25 km section. Huge holes are found in many places. In this context, the National Highways Authority has been asked to investigate. But so far the central government has not given any importance.

Later, it was learnt that a meeting will be jointly convened by the sub-divisional administration and NHAI with DSU and ADSU to finalize the opening of Mandardisa Toll Plaza.
