March 13, 2021 : As a part of voter
awareness a programme was organised by the Systematic Voters’ Education and
Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Cell of Dima Hasao headed by the SVEEP nodal
officer cum DIPRO, Purabi Phonglo along with the officials engaged.
Re-nowned
radio jockey, RJ Danvi from Guwahati, who has been officially appointed as the
Campus Ambassador for Dima Hasao Election conducted an interactive programme
cum quiz with the voters gathered at Haflong market making people aware about
the importance of casting their votes and remind them 1st April as the date of
poll .
A
hand on training on how to use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) along with Voter
Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) was done alongside by the Electoral
Literacy Clubs (ELC) team members headed by the master trainer Samiran Nath.
The members engaged in this cell are mostly
deputed from the education department who are teachers and have experienced in
handling the EVM machine or have been engaged in the process of election
earlier.
As
per the data from the last Parliamentary Election, 2019 the voters percentage
was 77.71 and with various activities held under the SVEEP programme, an
improvement is expected in voters turn out percentage of this district in the
ensuing Assam Legislative Assembly election.
The data records 31.13 as the lowest turnout
in the Muoldam polling station under Khobak police station, during the last
election held in 2019, where similar awareness programme was recently held by
the officials engaged along with the Booth Level Officer (BLO).
Earlier, activities such as drawing competitions,
flash mob dance, street plays were held in the district with an aim to create
people participation.
