Haflong, August 15, 2021:- The 75th
Independence Day of the nation was centrally celebrated today in a low key
programme at the Assam Rifles parade ground, Sarkari Bagan, Haflong organized
by the District Administration.
The programme started with offering floral tribute to the
father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi by the Chief Executive Member of N.C.Hills
Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa as Chief Guest. Then, he hoisted the
tricolor in presence of Deputy Commissioner Paul Barua and Superintendent of
Police Jayant Singh.
Addressing the gathering, the chief Guest recalled the
contributions of the great freedom fighters that fought to free India. Gorlosa
also highlighted various development projects undergoing under their government
and also stated about the government achievements.
On the occasion, five community health workers were given a
token of recognition by the CEM for the services they rendered during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
The CEM also mentioned about the recently sanctioned amount
of rupees 18 crores for the construction of 49 km stretch of national highly
road from Nriambanglo to Harangjao and about the approval of North East Frontier
Railway for vistadome coaches between Haflong to Guwahati giving a boost in
tourism sector.
Gorlosa also informed about the infrastructural growth and to
take forward the sports sectors construction of stadiums with all modern
amenities in the district at an amount of 50 crores and another stadium under
MLA scheme amounting to 12 crore which are in pipeline.
The Chief Guest, further added that the council team under
him is judiciously leaving no stone unturned in order to increase the DA
(dearness allowance) of the council normal sector employees so as to be at par
with the state government employees.
Regarding the development of the district, Gorlosa said that the
challenges earlier faced by the people in Dima Hasao are gradually solved under
the current government with continued effort by his team at the Council and
guidance from the Assam Chief Minister and leadership of the Prime Minister of
the India. He also stated that the unemployed youth of the district will
benefit under the 1 lakh job appointment as declared by the state government.
Other dignitaries who attended the
programme were NCHAC chairperson Ranu Langthasa, MLA Nandita Gorlosa, EMs
Samuel Changsan, Amendu Hojai, Lalremsiama Darnei, Biswajit Dauagupu, Projit
Hojai, Paudaming Newme, Nojit Kemprai, Ratan Jarambusa, MACs Manjit Naiding,
Ajoy Chakraborty, Ishwari Prasad Joisy, NCHAC Principal Secretary L Z Nampui
and other officials from various departments including from the district
administration.
This year the celebration was conducted
keeping in mind the Covid-19 protocol, due to which no cultural programme was
organized at the field.
