September 27, 2021: The Chief Executive Member of N.C.Hills Autonomous Council
Debolal Gorlosa along with his team today observed the World Tourism Day at
Tumjang Peak.
The
CEM and his team observed the Day in a unique way living upto the theme of this
year 'Tourism for Inclusive Growth' by
trekking 'Selkal Mol' near Tumjang village, which is the second highest peak in
the Barail Range, situated at an
altitude of 1500 above sea level.
CEM's
team consisted of his wife Smti. Kanika Gorlosa, NCHAC Chairperson Smti. Ranu
Langthasa, Executive Members like Nojit Kemprai, and Projith Hojai, Borail
Constituency MAC Ngulminlal Lienthang and a host of council senior officials.
Speaking
on the occasion, CEM Gorlosa said, " It is very encouraging to see so many
tourists visiting this beautiful landscape, however it is important to maintain
clean and plastic free tourist spot". Stating that village will be
benefitted under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme, the pipe line water facility in
the village. Further he announced that council will support the villagers for
home stay facilities in order to promote eco tourism and facilitate the
visitors
It
may be stated that this trekking range has been a recent hotspot for many
visitors, tourists coming in from various corner from within as well as outside
the state.
With
the initiative of CEM, the Tourism dept lead by Deputy Director of Tourism Mr.
Nirmendu Kemprai successfully organised the programme with the support of the
local villagers of the area.
The
villagers of the locality has recently been witnessing many tourism
opportunities promoting eco-tourism.
The
place is famous for its unique varieties of fruits grown in the area esp. sweet
plum fruit and the natural resources.
Established in 1833 Thumjang is one of the
oldest village in Dima Hasao with no proper roads or other amenities.
