Centre allocates Rs 180 cr for restoration of railway network in Dima Hasao

May 2022:  Chief Minister Dr. Himanta
Biswa Sarma on May 23 has confirmed the allocation of Rs. 180 crore by the Centre
for restoration work of railway network in Dima Hasao district of Assam.



He said that the Railway Ministry has also assured to complete the restoration
work of railway network in Dima Hasao district by July 10.


The Chief Minister had met Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on May 22 and apprised of the
prevailing flood situation in Assam.


The continuous heavy rainfall from May 11 in Dima Hasao cause havoc in
the district. Landslide and floods occurred in many places that damaged almost
all communications.



Three persons have also lost lives in Dima Hasao while many houses, residential
areas have been destroyed.




The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), therefore, had suspended all
trains through Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section to
Barak Valley, Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur, after the flood damaged
railway tracks at multiple locations.  




Meanwhile, report is
received that 24 people have lost their lives in the devastating floods and
landslides in Assam this year so far.
