Feb 8: Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, Dima Hasao Dist.Committee, submitted a memorandum to Shantaram Naik, MP(R.S),Chairman,Parliament Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice,New Delhi for Creation of Proposed Assam Legislative Council, informed the President of BGP Lakpa Lama in a press release.
The release stated that the Gorkhas of Dima Hasao District(Sixth Schedule Area) whole heartedly support the creation of Assam Legislative Council which will pave for giving better opportunity for participation in governance and decision making and strongly demand the passage of the Assam Legislative Council Bill in the ensuing Parliament Session . The BGP want Naik’s intervention that the backward Gorkha Community of Assam and various ethnic communities of Assam must get proper representation in the proposed Assam Legislative Council for the overall development of the state. They also demand representation from the Dima hasao District (Sixth Schedule Autonomous Council area) which is very much backward in the sphere of development in the proposed Assam Legislative Council for the empowerment and its overall development.
