Celebration of 69th Independence Day in Dima Hasao


Haflong, August 15 (Haflong News 17 Aug 2015): With rest of the country, the 69th Independence Day was celebrated at Haflong with a daylong programme,  with Prabhat Ferry from 5:30 am, singing of Pratriotic songs through FLS at 6am, hoisting of National Flag in all private buildings at 6:30 am and in all offices/institutions at 7:30 am; procession of students; and public gathering at 9am.
The main event was held at N.L.Daulagupu Sports Complex started with a ceremonial Flag hoisting by the VIP of the day, Debojeet Thaosen Chief Executive Member of N.C.Hills Autonomous Council, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Ms Juri Phukan and Superintendent of Police S.P. Ganjawala in the presence of a huge gathering. The VIP paid tribute to the freedom fighters of the Country. He also paid his hearty tribute to late APJ Abdul Kalam, the missile man for his contribution towards our Nation.

Addressing the gathering, the CEM acclaimed the prevailing peaceful co existence and co operation for the colourful celebration of the day. He extended his heartfelt thanks to all for  full co operation with the District Administration and the Council for the successful celebration of the Day. He also asserted that the bandh   culture which hampers the developmental process of government in earlier days is almost nil in the district for which he congratulated all.
Assessing the development works in the district, the VIP lauded the PHE department that the problem of water supply system shall be solved in a short period with their tremendous hard works.
He also stated that the road problems will be soon solved by constructing new and renovating old roads and the Haflong-Jatinga road construction shall be completed within this year with the help of the District administration.
In the field of education, he said, the pass percentage of HSLC examination has increased by 7% compared to last year. He also mentioned that he and his party colleagues are trying their best to regularise the salary problems of council employees.
He stated that this year the participants on this auspicious occasion have increased which he says is a sign of prevailing peace in the district. Around five thousand people gathered at the venue to celebrate the Independence Day.
Later, cultural programmes from various communities were presented and many awards were also distributed during the ceremony.
The programme was attended by Members of the Autonomous Council including Executive Members, officials from District Administration, Haflong and Assam Police, Officers from various departments, senior citizens, NGO’s, student etc.
