BJP Candidate B.B.Hagjer Won in 16-Haflong (ST) LAC - First Time for BJP

Haflong when his victory was certain

May 19, 2016 ( Haflong News 21 May 2016): Indicating the people of Dima Hasao district are also responding to the clarion call of BJP party for ‘ A change’, the BJP party candidate B.B.Hagjer was declared the winner today in 16-Haflong (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency, defeating his nearest rival Congress candidate Nirmal Langthasa by a margin of 8285 votes.

The total vote cast counted was 1,01,317; out of this 51,996 voted BJP ; 43,711 for Congress; 2,892 for HSDP; 2,718 for AIUDF and 1,111 votes were NOTA.

After declared him elected by the Returning Officer & Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao district Amarendra Baruah in the office, B.B.Hagjer (Retd. IAS Officer) was welcome by the party leaders and a large number members in front of DC office, felicitating him with gamocha and led towards the party office with beating drums and shouting slogans ‘BB Hagjer jindabad, BJP Long Live’.
This is first time the party is winning MLA election in this district of Assam, thus created history. This is also by the worthy son of the founder of North Cachar Hills District Council ( Now North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council ) and the first MLA & Minister of Assam from this district Joy Badra Hagjer (J.B. Hagjer),
Counting was held peacefully and the counting process with 15 rounds was completed declaring Bir Bhadra Hagjer candidate for Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) as winner with 51,996 votes to his account. Second in leading was Nirmal Langthasa, candidate for Indian National Congress (INC) with 43,711 votes, followed by Mayasing Daulagupu, Independent candidate (representing Hills State Demand Committee) with 2,892 votes and Neikhol Haolai Changsan representing All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) with 2,718. Total number of voters turnout in the district was 1, 02,428 and 1,111 numbers voted for NOTA as per report. Number of votes through postal ballot was 76 of which 09 found invalid. -
