Haflong, February
1,2019 : Various organizations under the banner “People of Dima Hasao” staged
dharna at Taxi stand, Haflong today from 10 am to 4 pm, in protest against the
Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016.
The dharna was
participated by many people to regiter their protest against the Bill.
On the occasion, many
political and social leaders spoke about the Bill and how this bill, if passed
will affect the indigenous people.
Speaking on the
occasion, the Haflong local MAC Daniel Langthasa said that the BJP government
is trying to pass this Bill by any means during the present parliament session,
since this might be the last session before Lok Sabha election.
Daniel also stated
that the Bill, if passes will badly endanger the very existence of indigenous
communities of the state. As such, the citizens in North east India are
protesting against the Bill. This Bill is a conspiracy to grant citizenship on
religious line and any Bill on religious line should be condemned, he added.
The dharna was also addressed by District Congress
President Nirmal Langthasa and others.
