Covishield to be launched in Dima Hasao district of Assam on January 16



Haflong,January 13,2021: COVID-19 vaccine called “Covishield” will be launched in Dima Hasao district on 16th January 2021 along with the rest of the country, said Joint Director of Medical & Family Welfare, Dr. Dipali Barman in a press meet today.


 Dr. Barman also revealed to media persons in the press meet at her official chamber that the state medical department has selected two vaccination sites in Dima Hasao district - Haflong Civil Hospital, Haflong and Umrangso Community Health Centre, Umrangso.


The Chief Medical & Health Officer Dr. Marina L. Changsan said that vaccines will be given phase wise. 


1st phase will start with the healthcare worker and ICDS staff like Anganwadi workers, Supervisors, and CDPOs. 


The vaccine will be given in the upper arm, 0.5 ml, intramuscular in two doses, minimum of 28 days apart. 


The immunity will start developing after 14 days of 2nd dose. After vaccination also, all protocols of COVID-19 should be maintained; like wearing of mask, frequent hand washing and physical distancing of 6 feet.


When asked about the safety of the vaccine, Dr. Barman, “It is said to be safe and effective”. She even claimed that the vaccine is said to be like water as far as its safety is concerned.


The first consignment, over 730 kg of cargo in 20 boxes having vaccine doses of the vaccine has arrived  at the LGBI Airport in Guwahati from Pune on January 12 for Assam and Meghalaya.
