Assam Minister for Welfare of Minorities
and Development, Ranjit Dutta unveiled the foundation stone of Model
Residential School at Heuwangberam under Mahur
Development Block in Dima Hasao district today.
The ceremonial unveiling programme was
attended by Chief Executive member of N.C. Hills Autonomous Council, Debolal
Gorlosa, MLA of Haflong B.B. Hagjer, NCHAC Chairperson Smti. Ranu Langthasa, Executive
Members like Lalremsiama Darnei, Namrothang Hmar,
Paudaming Nriame, Nipolal Hojai; MACs, Superintendent of Police, Jayant Singh and and other
officials from the district line departments.
Besides, the programme was also attended
by the high rank officials from Guwahati,
Syeda Hasina M. Rahman, ACS, Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Welfare of
Minorities & Development Department and Mahmood Hassan, ACS, Director, Char
Areas Development, Assam.
Addressing the gathering, Minister
Dutta informed the gathering that the Model residential school is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 30.42 crore under
Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, Ministry of Minority Affairs.
He stated that the school is to provided
educational empowerment for the
students belonging to minority communities.
He asserted that this will be equipped with all the modern facilities
and will be totally free. He also informed that the institute after its
completion would have academic and administrative block, hostels, teachers and
staff quarters, guest house and dining-cum-kitchen.
Speaking on the occasion, CEM Debolal Gorlosa appealed to the
general public to thrive for the welfare of all sections of the society. He pointed
out that the people of the district get many development under the present government. So,
he expressed hope that if establishment of such schools continue in Dima Hasao,
the district will one day be an Education Hub for the people of this region.
Earlier,
the Deputy Commisioner of Dima Hasao district Paul Barua, in his welcome speech,
briefly explained about the scheme.
That was
followed by presentation of traditional dances by cultural
troupe from some local tribes of Mahur area.
The
gathering was also addressed by local MLA of 16-Haflong BB Hagjer, NCHAC Chairperson
Smti. Ranu Lanthasa, Executive Member Smti. Nandita Gorlosa and others.
The programme come to conclusion with vote of
thanks from Ngulminlal Lienthang, who is
the present MAC of Borail Constituency and Block Level Committee Chairman,
Jatinga Valley development block.
