A Child of Haflong Earned Recognition For Her Rendition of Assamese Anthem

 Haflong, March 12, 2021 : A girl child of Haflong get recognition for her recent rendition of Assamese Anthem ‘O Mur Apunar Desh’.


A six-year old child singer of Haflong, Kalmawizo Hmar with mellifluous voice is not only earning her admirers but also earning her sponsors, impressed by her rendition of the Assam’s state anthem ‘O Mur Apunar Desh’ All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) adviser Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya has decided to fund her education for five years.


Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya (@SamujjalBhatta) Tweeted: “An immensely talented child,Kalmawizo Hmar,from an interior village of Haflong mesmerised us with her melodious voice. Her tryst at singing O Mur Apunar Desh is commendable.” 


“Honoured to bear her educational expenses as discussed with NC Hills ISF for 5 years”, added Dr. Bhattacharjya.


Kalmawizo Hmar, aged 6 years old, read in KG II class in St. Agnes Convent Higher Secondary School, Haflong. Her father is J.Rokhawmlien Hmar, while her mother is Felicia L. Joute. They live in Muolhoi, Haflong, the headquarter of Dima Hasao ( earlier N.C.Hills) district in  Assam.


Her rendition hits the high notes in the song almost perfectly and many have been sharing her video to bring her performance to notice.



The video features the child wearing an Assamese attire and singing. It’s also promotes tourism of the district as the video start with a glimpse of mesmerizing views of Panimur waterfall which is known as the best picnic spot in Assam.


Kalmawizo can speaks her mother tongue Hmar, Mizo and a bit of Hindi and English, but she her parent is very little acquaintance to Assamese. However she had sung in Hmar, Mizo, Hindi, Assamese and English with a perfect accent. 


She started singing since she was two years and nine months old and has been regularly performing Gospel song in church. Her youtube channel was earlier set by her father in his own name to keep records of church videos, however seeing her talent as a singing star, church members suggest to convert in his daughter’s name which has attracted from 400 subscribers to over 35,000 subscribers.
