Strategies during election process in the wake of COVID-19

 Haflong, March 21, 2021:   Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer, Paul Barua convened an emergent meeting with all the senior officials in the district administration, in-charge of all cells engaged in the ensuing election, joint director of Health & Family Welfare and senior officer from Assam Police in presence of the General Observer V.R Vinod, IAS and Expenditure Observer Md. Manzarul Hasan at the DC conference Hall, Haflong.


The meeting was called for discussion and adopting strategies during the entire ensuing election process in the wake of COVID-19, for controlling the spread of it and also contain by adopting all possible measures during the process of Assam Assembly Election, 2021. 


Deputy Commissioner instructed the cells to strictly comply with the COVID -19 protocols while discharging their duties so as to avoid any probable chances of the spread of the virus in Dima Hasao. Discussing the norms and measures with the officers, he instructed those at the material cell to be extra vigilant while distribution of materials to the polling officials during the movement of the officials engaged for poll day on the 1st April next. 



As per the strategy, movement of the polling officials is planned for two days beginning on 30th March for those in distant locations. Polling officials of a total of 101 polling stations will move on first day and 145 on the second day. 


In-order to ensure that there is no rush and to avoid crowding of polling personals, 18 number of distribution points is in the process of construction for distribution of materials required for polling day such as EVM machines etc. 


In addition unlike the rest of the years, only two from each team of total personals engaged in each polling station will be allowed while receiving the materials from the counters as a precautionary step in wake of COVID-19, expecting the distribution process to begin early morning on those two days. 


 The DC urged that in order to keep a check on the virus, it will be required to step up testing, focus on maximizing vaccination and minimizing wastage.
