Haflong, May 2, 2021 : The BJP retained the 16-Haflong (ST) LAC seat in Assam Assembly election the result of which was announced on May 2 (Sunday).
It is historic for the 16-Haflong (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency that Smti. Nandita Gorlosa become the first lady to have won the MLA seat.
Smti. Gorlosa defeated her nearest rival INC candidate Nirmal Langthasa by a margin of 18,295 votes.
She received 66732 votes while Langthasa got 48437 votes.
The result was announced in the evening around 7P.M. on May 2 (Sunday) after completion of the Counting of votes, though the result was already known at 5P.M.
Congratulating her, the Chief Executive Member of N.C.Hills Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa says, “Heartiest Congratulations to Smt.Nandita Gorlosa First Women MLA of Dima Hasao District from 16-Haflong(ST), won by 18,295 votes, total 66732 votes.”
“A sincere Thanks to all our supporters for stepping out & giving your valuable time to vote for Nandita Gorlosa .Thanks to all for your unwavering support and believing in Bharatiya Janata Party” added the CEM.
Later, Dima Hasao District BJP President Donpainon Thaosen, writes, “Gratitude to the people of Dima Hasao District for showing faith upon Smti. Nandita Garlosa and in BJP once again. Congratulation and best wishes to the first ever lady MLA of Dima Hasao district.”
In her own message, the newly elected MLA Smti. Nandita Gorlosa, in facebook post writes :
“‘First Lady MLA of Dima Hasao District, Assam’, is an honour that has been bestowed on me today by the denizens of Dima Hasao. I am extremely thankful, happy and overwhelmed at such a positive outcome at the 16-ST LAC, Haflong election 2021. I am very thankful to each and everyone who voted and put their trust on me through their valuable votes. I shall remain ever grateful and will always remember my allegiance and support for the beloved people of my district. I thank my family for eternal support, the people of BJP party who vested their trust in me, the people working tirelessly under my loop, each and everyone who worked so intrinsicly to conduct the election processes in our district, all the people of Dima Hasao and above all, God for his blessings and guidance on us all. I shall always work FOR the people, as elected BY the people and shall look constructively on all the matters and issues OF the people.”
“I once again bow my head and rest my respect to all the people who looked up to me in this important day of our district.... Thank you all...” she added.
Smti. Nandita Gorlosa become the second MLA for BJP in Haflong seat. The first was the Bir Bhadra Hagjer who won in the 2016.On the other hand, the Congress candidate Nirmal Langthasa lost for the second time with more margin.
In 2016 election, BB Hajer had won by a margin of 7285 votes. This time, Smti. Nandita Gorlosa won by a margin of 18,295 votes.
