Observance of 28th Kuki Black Day at Songpijang in Dima Hasao

 The 28th  ‘Kuki Black Day' ('Kuki Sahnitni' ) was
observed today, September 13,
 by the
Kuki community of Dima Hasao district in Assam along with rest of the Kuki
world in respective local places following COVID-19 SOP.




It may be
stated here that the Kukis have been observing 13th September as ‘Sahnitni’
every year to condole the death of more than nine hundred Kukis in the hands of
NSCN (I-M) from 1991 to 1996-7, especially 108 (one hundred eight) innocent Kukis
were murdered in a single day on the fateful day of 13th September 1993.  Those 108 persons were villagers of Joupi,
Gelnel, and Aimol (Tamei). Till Besides, names of all 970 (nine hundred seventy
) persons killed are recorded, according to reliable sources.




The Day is mainly
observed as 'Condolence Prayer Meet' and speeches on to live peacefully with
others than ‘Violence’, which beget violence’ as directed by the Kuki Apex body
called 'Kuki Innpi' (KI) since many years back.




The programme
at Songpijang was organized by the Songpijang Village Committee as 'Condolence
Prayer Meet' in the premises of the G.B of Songpijang L.Guite, was conducted by
the SVC Secretary H.Haolai,  which was attended
by Gaon Burah L.Guite along with other members, VDP and SYC leaders. Besides, Church
leaders, social and student leaders, and other villagers also attended the meet.




Speaking on
the occasion, the appointed speaker Rev. S. Changsan reminded the gathering how
God saved Israelites when Jehoshaphat prayed with total humility.  He, therefore, insists all the Kuki community
to practice ‘Love than hatred, peaceful and mutual understanding live with
others. Only then, God, who loved all who seek him, will help the Kuki people.




The programme
started with opening prayer from Rev. David T. Lhouvum, and was followed by
presentation of special number by Soloist Miss Vahneichin Hanneng.




The speaker
also briefly explained the reason behind the yearly observance of the 13th
September as ‘Kuki Black Day. 




He said, “We
observe the Day not to instil hatred and vengeance, but to mourn and pray for
the departed souls; pray Almighty God to comfort their bereave families. We to pray
for our Kuki community;  pray for leaders
of the country, states and local areas that they may rule and govern well for
peace and progress of all communities. We pray for all neighbouring
communities, pray to establish permanent peace in the land and pray that such
incident of heinous crime should not be repeated in the world”.




After sermon,
the gathering observed one minute silence in respect for the departed souls,
then the speaker prayed God to console and bless the bereaved families.




That was
followed by mass prayer with all subject cited earlier and for the culprits involved
in the in those heinous crime that they may shun violence and work for peace
and extension of God’s Kingdom.




The programme
comes to conclusion with benediction from Rev.L.Lenthang and all were served
with tea and snack from the Gaon Burah.
