74th Republic Day celebrated at Haflong

Haflong, 26th January, 2023: On the occasion of the 74th Republic Day celebration across the nation, a grand celebration was also organised centrally in Haflong, the headquarters of Dima Hasao district. Chief Execuitve Member (CEM) of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Debolal Gorlosa unfurled the tricoulor at N L Daulagupu Sports Complex in midst of crowed who came to witness the event. 


While hoisting the National Flag CEM Debolal Gorlosa was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Nazreen Ahmed, ACS and Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar, IPS on the dais beside him. 


CEM Gorlosa paid floral tribute to the portrait of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, then  he inspected the guard of honour of the march past contentment and delivered speech. 

 The unfurling  the tricolor by the chief guest was followed by the speech by the chief guest Debolal Gorlosa. 


Paying homage and respect to the  freedom figheters for all their sacrifices, Debolal Gorlosa remembered the contribution of Tularam Senapati, Veer Sambudhan Phonglo, Ranima Gaidinleu, Sainyajik Jaya Thaosen and all those who sacrified their lives for the service of the people without bowing down to slavery. 

He also said that statue of Jaya Thaosen will also soon be installed in the district as a mark of respect for her contribution and valliant fight for independence. 

Refering to the recent unveiling of the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the heart of the town, Debolal Gorlosa said that each of the great figures deserve to have prominent place of statue installation so that the people and esp.the new generation will always remember them and be thankfull for the freedom that is enjoyed on this day. 

He also spoke about the contribution of his government, how along with his council team their efforts are gradually sowing fruitful result. 


With the effective policy and efficient implementation the district is performing well in various sectors such as the district topped the performance list in state in the DRDA PMAY-G (Awass+), HSLC examination, the result of HSSLC performance of Medical team during  Kayakalp etc. 


He further reiteriated how the council keeping in view with the traditions, history and culture of the place have done works for upgradation and development works in preserving in this field. 

As Dima Hasao is naturally so beautiful, traditionally, culturally and historically so rich due to so many indigenous communities living in this region harmoniously, the council has taken up so many initiatives to further develop the existing resources and ensure popularity for promotion of tourism in the region.

He also spoke about the recent inauguration of the Beautification Site of Ranachandi Temple cum Park famously known as One Stone House, in Maibang. Constructed over the 22 bighas of land, the council constructed complex of the temple with beautiful heritage park, images and statues of the prominent Dimasa warriors, ministers and influencers of the society under different rulers.


Also refering to the disaster that took place in the district during the month of May and June, CEM  Debolal Gorlosa said he is thankful to his team of council members and officials and also District Administration for whose continous efforts the place was restored in such short period time that amazed everyone. He nalso highly appreciated Deputy Commissioner Nazreen Ahmed for her efforts and good support during the time of disaster that heped in mitigating and combating the disaster. 


The programme saw the uniformed contentments participate in the march past which included Assam Police, scouts and students from various educational institutions.

 Colorful traditional dances were presented by various communities such as dimasa, jeme, hmar, kuki, biate, karbi, jaintia, hrangkhol, khelma, veiphai, gorkha, assamese, bengali and manipuri. A modern group dance was also presented on the occasion and a display of Shotokan Karate by the trainees. 


Approximately thousand people attended today’s programme from different walks of life. Others present during the celebration were Chairperson of NCHAC, Executive Members and MACs of NCHAC, Principal Secretaries, secretaries, ADCs, Army Commandant, officers from various departments, Media, senior citizens, students, teachers  and general public.
