Reports
have been received up to the filing of this report that effective programs were
organized by the following Village committees at 1. Songpijang, 2. Khongsai,3.
Kholjangm,3. Pangmol, 4. Khengjol, 5. P.T. Leikeh, 6. Changpijang,7. Khobul, 8.
P. Leikul. A report from other villages is awaited.
The
programme at Songpijang was organized by the Songpijang Village Committee (SVC)
at the premises of Pu L.Guite GB of Songpijang, starting from 7:00 am onwards.
It began with an offering of floral tributes to the Freedom fighter Pu
Chengjapao Doungel by all participants.
The
public meeting, conducted by the SYC Secretary Upa Henjangam Haolai with Pu
Lamkai Guite GB, began with an opening prayer from Rev. David T. Lhouvum.
The
main speech about the Life story and contribution of the Freedom fighter Pu
Chengjapao Doungel was delivered by Rev. T.S.Changsan.
The
Pastor, Rev. T.S.Changsan, also conducted a Condolence meeting with one Minute
silence and prayer for both the departed soul and for the living Kuki community
that they may be a good citizen by serving the community and the country like
Pu Chengjapao and other Freedom fighters.
The
free collection for refreshment and the refreshment to serve were dedicated to
the Lord in prayer by the President of Kuki Inpi Assam (KIA), Upa Henkam
Haolai.
That
was followed by singing a hymn together by all the gathering and Mass Prayer
for the Kuki community and for the peace and progress of every area they lived
in.
The
public meeting concluded with a Benediction from the KIA Adviser, Rev. Letlam
Lenthang. Then, refreshment was served to all the participants of the public
meeting.
The
Kuki Freedom Fighter Pu Chengjapao Doungel, born on 28th August 1868, was
the Chief of Aisan and the Chief among the other Kuki Chiefs. He was the leader
among the Kuki Chiefs during their War against the British Raj from 1917
to 1919.
To
pay tribute to the hero, his death anniversary is observed every year by the
Kuki community in Assam, especially in Dima Hasao (earlier N.C.Hills) under the
aegis of the Kuki Inpi Assam (KIA).
In
other words, the death anniversary of Pu Chengjapao Doungel is observed to
remember the Kuki freedom fighter who led the Kuki struggle against the British
for Kuki sovereignty.
His
role in organizing the Kuki community against colonial rule bestowed his
efficient leadership and Freedom Fighter. He was imprisoned for four years as
the leader among the other Kuki Freedom Fighters. He died on 28th August 1928
after a four-year imprisonment at the age of sixty due to the toll the struggle
and imprisonment took on his health.
