Haflong, 08 September. To commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, a floral tribute was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall. A portrait of Dr. Hazarika was draped in fresh garlands and flowers as officials, staffs, and other memberscame forward to pay homage. The programme also saw lighting of the lamp by Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao Shri. Munindranath Ngatey.
The hall resonated with the
timeless melody of “ManuheManuhorBabe,”evoking the lyrical depth and social
conscience that defined Hazarika’s music.
The centenary tribute continued with a vibrant
cultural evening at the Auditorium Hall of Haflong Government College. Music
school learners, College students, Officials, and Community members gathered to
celebrate the maestro’s legacy.Prizes were also given for song contest held
during the centenary tribute with Mr. Emmanuel Tuolor winning the first prize,
Anushmita Baishya securing the second, and Seuli Nath receiving the third
prize.

gratitude to the Principal of Haflong Government College for their invaluable
assistance in organizing the evening, and congratulated all participants.
Keynote speaker Smti. Papori Senapati, Professor of
English at Haflong Government College, traced Dr. Hazarika’s life journey from
his early inspirations in Assam to his rise as an icon of Indian music.
