As a part of the drive to
provide medical facilities to the locals in the remote areas, the Assam Rifles carries out Military Civil
Action Programmes from time to time. These efforts bring out the humane face of
the security forces and act as confidence building measures.
Under aegis of Red Shield Div, the troops of 25 Assam Rifles conducted a medical
camp in conjunction with Holy Spirit hospital at remote villages of Gunjong on
28 Nov 2011.
The village is located
around 35 km in a remote area of the district. The villagers, who are totally
deprived of the modern medical farcicalities, suffer in silence with no one to
depend upon. The medical camp conducted by the 25 Assam Rifles came as a real
boon for the people. As wide publicity was given well in advance regarding the
camp, many villagers turned up at the camp.
Altogether 210 villagers
including women and children were thoroughly screened by the doctors at the
camp and given free medical treatments. Besides providing medicines for a
variety of diseases and ailments, some patients were also referred for advanced
treatment. The medical officers also spoken on health and hygiene to the local
people and gave medical advices and precautions against various diseases.
Among the doctors present
were Asst Comdt Kaushik Handique (Medical Officer) 25 Assam Rifles alongwith
the para medical staff. Dr. B N Bose from PHE Gunjong and two representatives
of Holy Spirit trust hospital also took part in the camp.
The villagers appreciated
the Assam Rifles and the Holy Spirit trust for conducting the medical camp and
requested them to hold more such camps in future also in the interest of the
poor people.
