With rest of the Indian sub-continent, the people of
Haflong celebrated today on Sunday , the country’s 65th Republic Day with a daylong programme at the district Headquarter , Haflong.
The main event was held at at N L Daolagupu Sports
Complex, where the VIP of the Day, Shri.
Debojeet Thaosen, Chief Executive Member, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council unfurled
the tri-colour National flag in presence of several Executive Members, Members
of DHAC, government officials and a huge public gathering. The VIP Sri Thaosen inspected the guard of
honour by 5th AP Bn, Home Guards, NCC, Scout & Guide and contingents from
schools etc.
Addressing the gathering, Thaosen said that the Council
has achieved some progress with the help of the Government though much is to be
done. He elaborated many works done, those in progress and also new programmes.
He also appealed to all sections to extend help and support to the Council as
well as the government to make the district more develop. He stated that
opposition party with constructive criticism is necessary in democratic
country. But he appealed that not to make undue criticism without fact and
disturb the people as well as development works by calling bandh, etc.
The VIP also gave the detail like steps taken by the
Council for the all round development of the district through all the
departments. He pointed out that some departments
like Education, Health & Family Welfare, Sericulture, Sports, veterinary, etc. have shown remarkable improvement and
achievements. He, further said that many months pending salaries of the normal
employees have been cleared and the rest will be cleared soon. “We are actively
working out with the government of Assam to find out a permanent solution to
this salary problem” he asserted.
Other
attractive items were colourful guard of honour, march pass and cultural shows
by almost all the communities living in the district. Besides, the musical band
of Goskha Regiments attracted every eye while awards to participants in guard
of honour, march pass and cultural as well as distribution of benefits were
other important items.
