First BG Goods Train of Lumding-Silchar Flagged Off





Haflong, March, 27: A  new era in  transportation and connectivity began in  Southern Assam and whole region  of this land locked region as the first BG Goods train rolled of  in newly gauge  converted  Lumding-Silchar section of Northeast Frontier Railway.

The flagging of was done by the union minister of railway Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu by remote from Delhi at 12:30 PM today in presence of Rajen Gohain,MP,Lok Sabha, Swapan Kar,MLA, Lumding,Naznin Faruque, MP, Rajya Sabha, General Manager, N F Railway, Maligaon ,R S Virdi, General Mnager, Construction, R K Singh,DRM,Lumding,Neraj Kumar and other dignitaries in lumding Station.
The BG goods train laden with goods begin its maiden journey from the platform number three at 1:13 PM with three engines two in front and one in rear  for a  distance of 210 kilometre newly constructed broad gauge railway track between Lumding and Silchar. The Train will cross the 3.235 kilometre longest  tunnel near New-Haflong and some difficult topography  in this 210 Kilometre Lumding-Silchar broad gauge railway track.
Earlier, the first time a trial goods train was arrived on 12th of January, at New-Haflong Railway Station covering 98 Kilometre  distance from Patharkhula station to New-Haflong station crossing 9 nos.tunnel,15 nos. stations,15 major bridges and 135 minor bridges.
Latter, a light goods (LG) train was run from Patharkhila to Silchar on 15th of March and back  to Patharkhula   on 16th March,2015 accompanied by high level railway officials.
The beginning  of the train service created sight of relief among the people of Dima Hasao and Barak valley and beyond which will fulfil the decade old needs and aspiration of people living in this region.
Highlight of the Lumding-Silchar BG section
 The 210 km long line was opened for goods traffic today & will be providing seamless BG connectivity to Barack Valley of Assam & the rest of the country.
This project had been declared a national project in 2004 and has seen various ups and downs during its implementation including insurgency in the area and tough engineering challenges such as difficult geology & terrain.
Length of the section -210 km, 21 Tunnels, Longest Tunnel (T-10)-3.235 km, 79 Major Bridges,340 minor bridges.
No. of stations-28 crossing stations + 1 Patharkhola (for bye-pass connection) + 4 Halt stations.
 Important stations- Lumding, Haflong, Badarpur, Silchar.
