Bhumi Pujan of Haflong Town Water Supply Project under AMRUT 2.0 held at Lal Field

 

NCHAC Shri Donpainon Thaosen (i/c Finance, Town & Country Planning, Education), Haflong, March 15, 2026: The Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the Haflong Town Water Supply Project under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 was held today at Lal Field, Haflong. The programme was organized by the Department of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of Assam, marking a significant step towards strengthening urban water supply infrastructure and ensuring safe drinking water for the residents of Haflong.

Speaking at the occasion, Shri Donpainon Thaosen highlighted the long-standing issue of water scarcity in Haflong, recalling his own experiences during his early days. 

He expressed confidence that the new water supply project will provide a lasting solution to the Haflong water crisis. “Water scarcity in Haflong has been a persistent issue faced by all Haflongites. I am sure this project will finally resolve the problem,” he said. Despite heavy downpour, the programme continued smoothly to its logical conclusion.

Smt. Samprity Goswami ACS, Mission Director AMRUT, said that the project cost is approximately ₹100 crore and will generate 7 million litres of water daily, significantly improving the town’s water supply capacity.

The Haflong Town Water Supply Project under AMRUT 2.0 has been designed with a comprehensive scope to benefit 10,086 households through House Service Connections (HSCs), The project will ensure 24×7 access to safe drinking water,

The source of water will be drawn from surface sources, supported by a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) of 7.0 MLD capacity. To ensure efficient distribution, the project includes the laying of a 70.25 km pipeline network across the town.
